With more than 400,000 members,the ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public.    Association of Trial Lawyers of America    As the world's largest trial bar, ATLA promotes justice and fairness for injured persons, safeguards victims' rights--particularly the right to trial by jury--and strengthens the civil justice system through education and disclosure of information critical to public health and safety. With more than 56,000 members worldwide, and a network of U.S. and Canadian affiliates involved in diverse areas of trial advocacy, ATLA provides lawyers with the information and professional assistance needed to serve clients successfully and protect the democratic values inherent in the civil justice system. National Bar Association    During the first quarter of the 20th century, twelve African American pioneers with a mutual interest in and dedication to justice and the civil rights of all, helped structure the struggle of the African American race in America. The National Bar Association (NBA)was formally organized in Des Moines, Iowa on August 1, 1925, its purpose "...to advance the science of jurisprudence, uphold the honor of the legal profession, promote social intercourse among the members of the bar, and protect the civil and political rights of all citizens of the several states of the United States."
